Today, we took an important step toward the future of Ukraine’s fisheries sector. Yuriy Maslov, President of the Association “EU Strategy for the Danube Region,” and Serhii Kozak, Head of the All-Ukrainian Business Association of Fisheries and Aquaculture, signed a memorandum of cooperation.
Currently, Ukraine is heavily dependent on imports in the fish market, meeting only 10% of national demand. The sector remains sidelined in national development. Moreover, since the full-scale invasion, warehouses have been destroyed, supply chains disrupted, and production in the Azov-Black Sea region brought to a halt.
Yet at the same time, this sector can and must become a driver of economic growth, a source of employment in the regions, and a key pillar of food security. Our goal is to integrate the Ukrainian fisheries industry into European and global value chains — through investments, standards, technologies, and sustainable policies. Through a unification of knowledge, local experience, and international vision.
“We see the crisis the sector is in, but together we are ready to change the situation. Our goal is to unlock the potential of the Danube region, where thousands of tons of resources are lost each year due to ineffective management,” emphasized Yuriy Maslov.
