The XXI International Forum ‘AQUA UKRAINE-2024’, a key event in the water sector of Ukraine, was held in Kyiv on 15-17 October 2024. The event has become an important platform for dialogue between industry professionals, representatives of government agencies and international experts to discuss topical issues of water supply, including in the regions affected by the hostilities.
‘Water is not only a key resource for life, but also the basis for the country’s recovery after the war. Sustainable development of water infrastructure is critical to strengthening our economy, rebuilding communities and securing their future. We must not only restore the destroyed infrastructure, but also build a water supply system that will meet the challenges of the future, including climate change and the growing anthropogenic load,’ said Yuriy Maslov, President of the Association.
The Association of Local Governments ‘EU Strategy for the Danube Region’ actively joined the forum, supporting the idea of sustainable water management and Ukraine’s integration into European standards. One of the important areas of the association’s work is cooperation with the State Agency of Ukraine for Water Resources aimed at introducing modern technologies in the water sector and promoting common priorities.
We presented the Lower Danube Water Basin Management Plan to international experts. This plan includes measures to build, reconstruct and modernise hydraulic structures and use groundwater to improve water supply. Other important aspects include the introduction of ecological flows and the development of monitoring systems to help preserve aquatic ecosystems.
The Forum was not only a place to share experiences, but also an opportunity to demonstrate close cooperation between Ukrainian and international institutions in the area of sustainable water supply, which is critical for Ukraine’s post-war recovery and European integration.
