Ukraine became the first non-EU country to chair the EUSDR from November 1, 2021, to October 31, 2022. During its chairmanship of the EUSDR, Ukraine will focus on areas where the impacts of the coronavirus crisis have been most significant and where enhanced recovery, cohesion, and convergence measures are currently most important to promote the well-being of the residents of the Danube region.

Based on this, Ukraine identifies the central priorities of its chairmanship in the Danube Strategy as “Sustainable Development of the Danube Region: Decarbonization and Economic Transformation” and “Development of Human Capital and Labor Markets.”

To strengthen the role of the EUSDR during its chairmanship, Ukraine will continue the initiatives started by the countries that previously chaired the EUSDR, aimed at implementing the updated Action Plan to achieve the established goals, and will continue working on improving the governance and coordination structure of the EUSDR.

Supporting the new EU policy, the implementation of Ukraine’s proposed thematic priorities during its chairmanship in the EUSDR will take into account the new European agenda for digital transformation and the “European Green Deal.”

During its chairmanship in the EUSDR, Ukraine will ensure the holding of meetings of National Coordinators and Priority Area Coordinators, as well as the implementation of a set of tasks within the defined chairmanship priorities in the EUSDR, including organizing a series of thematic and public events (international conferences, seminars, workshops, etc.).

The key event of Ukraine’s chairmanship in the EUSDR is the holding of the XI Annual Forum of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region, which will be held under the slogan “Recovery. Development. Unity.” During the annual forum, a ministerial meeting dedicated to the sustainable development of the Danube region will be held.
