Development and Promotion of Green Tourism in the Danube Sector of the Black Sea Basin

The implementation of the cross-border project ‘Development and Promotion of Green Tourism in the Danube Sector of the Black Sea Basin (Cahul District, Republic of Moldova; Reni Territorial Community, Ukraine; Galati County, Romania)’ continues.
On 23-24 July 2021, Ukrainian partners took part in the second educational and practical workshop ‘The Role of Local Authorities in Utilising Tourism Potential’, which took place in Galati.

For two days, the seminar participants actively worked on studying the national tourism development strategies and programmes of Ukraine, Moldova and Romania, and also tried to draw up a SWOT analysis of the situation in the field of green tourism in these countries.

IDIS ‘Viitorul’ expert Mihai Turcanu from Moldova presented the results of a survey on tourism priorities conducted in Cahul.
Olena Petrova, an expert from Ukraine, introduced the peculiarities of state, regional and local approaches to tourism policy making and presented a study on the demand for tourism products among different social and age groups, conducted in May this year by the State Agency for Tourism Development of Ukraine (DART).

The discussion was also attended by Kostel Fotia, Chairman of the Galati County Council, Ionuc-Florin Pucianu, Mayor of Galati, Puiu-Lucian Gheorgheescu, Rector of Lower Danube University (Galati), Alina Isabela Ghirlianu, Head of the National Agency for Protected Natural Areas, and Valerice Negoice, Executive Director of the Galati Culture Department.

The second part of the seminar programme included study visits to interesting tourist sites in Galati County. Thus, everyone had the opportunity to visit the traditional household Vatra cu Dor (Tulucesti community), the private winery Bratu Brothers (Tulucesti community), the village museum-sansen in the Girboavle forest, and the tourist visitor centre in Braila.
In general, the workshop has become an effective platform for cross-border dialogue between various tourism actors, which should further lead to their effective cooperation and collaboration, as well as contribute to the unification of state policy instruments in the field of tourism.

The event is part of the cross-border project ‘Development and Promotion of Green Tourism in the Danube Sector of the Black Sea Basin (Cahul District, Republic of Moldova; Reni Territorial Community, Ukraine; Galati County, Romania)’.
The project’s activities include the development of a policy and the creation of a cross-border tourism cluster between Cahul (Republic of Moldova), Reni (Ukraine) and Galati (Romania), which will stimulate the development of cross-border tourism, including green tourism, improve the quality of tourism services, increase the number of tourists in the region, and improve the quality of life of local communities.
